Definition of Bartender and Barmaid

        TYPES OF BAR

1. COCKTAIL  BAR

The cocktail bar is probably the hardest to define as they vary so much from country to country, however all cocktail bars should offer a full range of drinks including cocktails and mixed drinks. They would normally stock a vast range of various brands and would certainly offer a superior standard of service including in most a table service. Some would offer beer including in some cases draught (tap) beer. Some would offer hot non alcoholic beverages such as tea or coffee. The staff would work under the direction of a bars manager or head bartender. The bar itself would be of a fixed style as would be the bar machinery, it would have permanent plumbing and the decorations and fittings would normally be to a high standad. Prices at this type of bar would normally be a bit higher.

 2. DISPENSE BAR

The main function of the dispense bar is to serve the customer through a third person, for instance a waiter or waitress. İn most cases the dispense bar is out of public sight altought not in all cases. Most dispense bars serve a full range of drinks including wine by the bottle, indeed in a restaurant o[eration this is the dispense bar`s main function and it is an extension of the cellar operation. The bar would be fixed as would be the machinery and it would be plumbed as in a cocktail bar. However as it is normally sighted away from public view, decorations would not need to be of such a high standard. Normally no cash is handled in a dispense operation, business being controlled by a docket system.

 3. THE FUNCTION BAR

This type of bar can be non permanent as in a temporary bar, when trestle tables are covered with table cloths, its purpose then is to meet the varying demands of different types of functions, for instance conferences and dinner-dances. İt offers a fast flexible style of service for short but busy periods of time. Obviously no fixed machinery or plumbing is possible so as to allow for greater flexibility, it can normally be quickly set up and just as quickly taken down and can be produced in any shape or size to suit the particular function it is catering for. Clearly this type of operation restricts the type of drink that it is possible to serve and for this reason many establishments have a fixed function bar which can be fully fitted and plumbed and can stock in it a larger selection of brands and can therefore offer a better selection of drinks. Another alternative is the mobile bar which can be wheeled into for instance a small conference room, drinks served from it for a given period of time and it can then be wheeled out again, this is a popular alternative if space is at a premium.

 4. THE WINE  BAR

A wine bar normally offers only wine and wine related products altought some also offer beer. Spirits and liqueurs and therefore cocktails are not offered. Such a bar is usually also run as a restaurant/snack bar and it offers a range of hot and cold foods and in some cases the  service of drinks is ancillary to the main volume of business which is to serve food altought in a more simple form than a restaurant. A fixed bar counter with fixed machinery and plumbing is normally found in this style of establishment.

 5. THE RESTAURANT BAR

A restaurant bar would, in a good standard of restaurant, be a cocktail bar, the difference being that it does not serve `drinks only` to members of the public, it serves only clients using the restaurant facility. İn some cases, particularly in smaller establisments the restaurant bar will, apart from serving direct to the customers in the bar, also operate as a dispense bar to the restaurant waiters. Such a bar is permanent with fixed machinery and plumbing as in a cocktail bar. İt is normally sighted just within the entrance to the establishment and the area is often used as a reception area.

6. CAFE  BAR

Only found in some countries, they normally offer a fast and reasonably good food selection and only a limited range of drinks, they are popular as meeting places in country areas and are popular with travellers. They are normally family run, with the famili often living on the premises.

 8. HAVUZ  BAR

 9. BEACH  BARS

Most of the conditions of pool bars (above) are also applicable to beach bars with the exception of the bar being sited on the beach area. Such astablisments often offer a simple restaurant or snack service to those clients not wishing to leave the beach area to eat.

 10. THE PİYANO  BAR

The term piano bar is normally given to any style of bar that offers piano entertainment. İn large cities they tend to be also cocktail bars but this is not necessaryly so. İn the smaller more intimate sort of bar the piano music can be almost of a cabaret style, often with one or more singers and even in some cases with the clients being encoureged to participate in a `sing-a-long` style.
